Paternity testing using DNA is extremely confidential and accurate. Results are obtained by swabbing the child, mother, and alleged father. A paternity test can be performed without testing the mother; however it is highly recommended to include her since her sample will greatly enhance the statistical value of the test and reduces the chances of obtaining inconclusive test results.
The difference between a legal and informational test is in the collection process. Legal test require that a disinterested third party follow the rigorous collection standards developed by the AABB. Informational Test are non Legal (can’t be used in court) test that provide peace of mind and can be done on your own.
